Speaker Remco NEUMANN


Remco Neumann (1965) was born and went to school in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. His parents were born in Java, Indonesia, and emigrated to the Netherlands in the fifties, after the independency of Indonesia in 1949.

After high school Remco started the 4-years Officers Training at the Royal Military Academy in 1983. At the academy he chose the study Economics. After finishing the military academy he also earned a master's degree in Business Economics at the University in Tilburg.

Remco got his first managing experience in 1988 in his first officer's job in Stolzenau, Germany. In 1990 he returned to the Netherlands and exercised various managing and controlling jobs in the Royal Netherlands Air Force. In 1997 Remco worked on the merger of 6 Defense IT-organisations and became one of the youngest officers in the rank of lieutenant-colonel.

Remco left the Royal Netherlands Air Force in 2000 and got back to his roots in Rotterdam. First he joined the municipality Rotterdam in the role of manager Finance & Control. He made several annual reports and lead a college project to improve operational processes. Later on he became controller of Stadshavens Rotterdam, one of the largest sustainable area development projects in the Netherlands.Since 2009 Remco is Manager Reporting in the Port of Rotterdam Authority. One of his challenges was the integration of the sustainanbilty report and the annual report . Nowadays the integrated annual report of the Port of Rotterdam Authority is one of the best practices in the Netherlands. It obtained reasonable assurance from the independent auditor, it accredited level A+ from Global Reporting Initiative and reached the top 10 in the Dutch Transparency Benchmark. In his last two jobs at Stadshavens Rotterdam and the Port of Rotterdam Authority Remco got specially interested in the link between sustainability and reporting. For example he introduced the 10 UN Global Compact business principles in the Port of Rotterdam.
