Sonia Favaretto is the Media Relations, Sustainability and Communications Managing Director at BM&FBOVESPA. She is a journalist and radio broadcaster with a post-graduate degree in Corporate Communication who has worked at radio stations, magazines and advertising agencies and has held leadership positions at several national and multinational companies.

In 1998, she joined BankBoston Brazil, where she was responsible for the management of internal communications. In 2001, she joined the BankBoston Foundation. This was her first experience in the third sector and it coincided with the emergence of sustainability as a strategic issue. In 2006, she took on the challenge of structuring this agenda at Itaú, Brazil's largest private bank. From 2006 to 2009 she held the voluntary position of head of Sustainability at the Brazilian Federation of Banks (FEBRABAN).

In 2009, she was invited to structure sustainability and social investment at BM&FBOVESPA, with media relations and communications being added to her job title over the past two years. She is among other things the chair of the Corporate Sustainability Index Board; vice-chair of the Sustainability Working Group of the World Federation of Exchanges; and a member of the advisory committee of the Global Reporting Initiative Brazil. In 2016, she was recognized by the UN as one of the world’s ten "Local SDG Pioneers" for her promotion of sustainability in Brazil’s capital markets.
