Speaker Javier F. PONCE

Biography

Architect Javier F. Ponce is the principal and founder of the Smart Floating Farms project and a registered architect at Col•legi d'Arquitectes de Catalunya (COAC) in Barcelona. Javier graduated from Tecnologico de Monterrey, attended UPC University in Barcelona and holds a Masters degree in Construction Technologies. He worked at Norman Foster and Partners in London, where he was exposed to different scales and types of projects worldwide.He's passionate about the way design and the architect's technical skills can help improve the environment and the quality of human life. Following this logic, several projects which could have a positive social impact have emerged.The Smart Floating Farms, an offshore Multi-layer food production system to bring food closer to our continous growing cities is certainly one aligned with his way of thinking.

His works have won numerous Awards and design competitions and have been part of exhibitions in places like MoMA New York or the Milan Design Week.In 2012 he was one of the winners of AJAC VIII Prize for architects under 40 in Catalonia.
