Speaker Barbara MALLINSON

My name’s Barbara Mallinson - founder of Obami and a lover of Africa and all things that lead to disruption. I’m currently based in Cape Town after growing up in Johannesburg, studying at UCT and working the digital scene in corporate London. I’m incredibly passionate about entrepreneurship, and have had the good fortune of being recognized for the work that I’ve done within the fields of technology and education.

Barbara Mallinson is the Founder and CEO of Obami – a social learning platform that’s been recognized by the likes of Forbes, CNN and Business Insider as one of the most innovative technologies in the world, as well as one of best start ups to come out of Africa.

Mallinson was identified as one of the Mail & Guardian’s “Top 200 Young People to Take to Lunch”, and has been branded an IT Hero, as well as one of Cape Town’s top 10 Women in Business, by the Cape IT Initiative. She’s been recognized by UNESCO Courier as one of 21 young people changing the world, while the likes of IT Web Africa, CNN, Forbes and the Financial Mail, identified her as one of the top entrepreneurs and African women in business.

Mallinson is the only African to have sat on the advisory board for the Mobile World Capital, a global initiative driven by the city of Barcelona and the GSMA.

Although based in Cape Town, Mallinson regularly presents her views on social media, social learning and social entrepreneurship across the globe.
