Speaker Frank VANCLAY


Prof Frank VANCLAY is Professor of Cultural Geography and Director of the Urban & Regional Studies Institute, in the Faculty of Spatial Sciences, University of Groningen, The Netherlands. He writes about managing social issues in large projects; business & human rights; social aspects of resource extraction; project-induced displacement & resettlement; and how companies need to get a social licence to operate and grow from the local communities in which they operate.

In his presentation, he will discuss some community benefit sharing mechanisms, and the importance of avoiding harm to communities by pro-actively assessing, monitoring and managing social issues at all stages of a project.
