Speaker Thomas LEYSEN

Biography

Thomas Leysen holds a law degree from the Catholic University of Louvain. He began his career in the maritime sector in Hamburg, London and Tokyo. From 1983 to 1988 he headed Transcor, where he transformed it into an international trading company of oil and coal, active in Europe, the USA and Asia. He joined the Group Société Générale of Belgium where he was in charge of the international business restructuring. Thereafter, he joined Umicore where he became CEO in 2000 and Chairman in 2008. In 2011 he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of KBC.

KBC is a European banking group strongly present in Belgium and Central Europe.

The Umicore Group, global leader in metals and advanced materials was appointed in 2013 the most sustainable company according to the index Global 100 most sustainable companies in the world. (14000 people, 80 sites worldwide)

Thomas Leysen is also Honorary President of the FEB (Federation of Enterprises in Belgium), an organization that represents more than 50,000 companies. Among his other responsibilities, he is also chairman of Belgian media group Corelio .
