Speaker Rebecca SALMINEN-WITT

Biography

Rebecca Salminen-Witt has served as the President of The Greening of Detroit since 1996 and finds her inspiration in Detroit’s people and its possibilities.  For the past 20 years she has turned inspiration into action while guiding The Greening’s growth to a full service community based environmental operation.  Each year The Greening plants 5,000 trees, reclaims acres of vacant land, harvests thousands of pounds of produce, provides nutrition and environmental education to nearly 10,000 children, recruits 7,000 volunteers and places 300 Detroiters in green jobs.  Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University and a Juris Doctorate from Wayne State University Law School in Detroit.  She contributes to the international blog site, The Nature of Cities, and has inspired audiences to action at venues all over the world, speaking throughout the United States and in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Portugal, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands and France.
